On Thursday December 8, 2011 Mayor Glenn Broska swore in Daniel Mulcahy as the newest member of the Streetsboro Police Department. Officer Mulcahy is a graduate of Mt. Union College, and is beginning his law enforcement career here in our community.

SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN BREAKING & ENTERING
On November 22, 2011, an employee of Executive Gold Buyers at 9291 SR14, St B in Streetsboro reported to the Streetsboro Police that their business had been broken into overnight. Taken from the business was a safe containing cash, gold, a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver and other miscellaneous items. Video footage shows the two suspects parked behind the business in a silver sedan at about 3:14AM and removed an air conditioner unit on the back of the building to get inside. Once inside, the two suspects broke a door to get into the office and rolled out the safe which was on casters. They were inside the business for about 7 minutes. Recently some of our residents received telephone solicitation calls from unknown subjects identifying themselves as being involved with the SPD Shop With A Cop Program. This is not a valid solicitation. Our local police association DOES NOT ever solicit for any type of donation over the telephone. THANKSGIVING FILL A CRUISER EVENT
On Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Streetsboro Giant Eagle, 1280 State Route 303 members of the Streetsboro Police Department will be collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations for needy families in the Streetsboro community for the Thanksgiving holiday. SPD OFFICER COMPLETES TECHNICAL TRAINING
Congratulations to SPD Officer Jason Sackett on his recent completion of Technical Accident Reconstruction training. This rigorous and demanding 2 week training course, coupled with 1 week of Vehicle Dynamics training, prepares law enforcement officers to reconstruct crash scenes. AREA BURGLARIES
The City of Streetsboro has experienced an increase in daytime home burglaries recently, particularly on the west side of the city near the Stonegate and Stoneridge Reserve developments, and detectives are working those cases. We are asking residents to be attentive to your neighborhoods. If you see something suspicious, please do not hesitate to contact the police department immediately.

SGT. SUVADA RECOGNIZED AS INTERNATIONAL CIT OFFICER OF THE YEAR
SPD Sgt. Andrew Suvada was recently recognized as the International CIT Officer of The Year at the CIT Training Conference held in Virginia Beach. Sgt. Suvada was previously recognized as the CIT Officer of The Year for both Portage County and the state of Ohio. In light of this significant accomplishment, Sgt. Suvada received the Streetsboro Police Department Chief's Achievement Award and a Mayoral Proclamation at the September 26, 2011 city council meeting. Congratulations Sgt. SPD OFFICER AWARD BY MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING (MADD)
Congratulations to Officer Justin Leidel on his recognition from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at their annual Portage County law enforcement recognition banquet. Officer Leidel was recognized for his enforcement efforts last year in taking drunk drivers off our community's roadways. ROBBERY OF SR#43 CIRCLE K STORE CLEARED
After a joint investigation of three similar Circle K robberies that occurred in Streetsboro, Cuyahoga Falls, and Wadsworth, a suspect was identified as Jason Douglas, age 23, of Hudson, Ohio. A warrant was obtained for his arrest and the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force headed by the US Marshals Service arrested Douglas at his home. He was turned over to SPD officers and later taken to the Portage County Jail. -- Posted August 23, 2011.
OVI CHECKPOINT SR# 43
SPD, in conjunction with personnel from the Aurora Police Department, Kent Police Department, Portage Co. Sheriffs Department, OSP, and the Portage County Prosecutors Office, conducted an OVI checkpoint on SR#43 at the Streetsboro/Aurora border. DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER CAMPAIGN
The national crackdown on impaired driving begins this weekend on Friday August 19 and runs through September 5. This year's slogan is "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." Our department as well as most of our neighboring departments and the Ohio State Patrol will be participating in the campaign.
In 2010 alone, 10,839 people died in crashes in which a driver or motorcycle rider was at or above the legal limit, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The age group with the highest percentage of alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes was the 21-to-24 age group. -- Posted August 18, 2011.

CLICK IT OR TICKET CAMPAIGN
SPD recently concluded participation in the national Click it or Ticket Campaign. During the two week program, our officers stopped 561 cars and wrote 60 seat belt cites, 89 speed cites, 8 Driving Under Suspension cites and 53 other cites. Our officers also arrested 8 OVI's and 4 felonies. Remember that just because the campaign has ended, does not mean we stop issuing citations. STREETSBORO POLICE ASSOCIATION MAKES SCHOLARSHIP DONATION
On May 18th, Officer Jason Sackett presented a $500 scholarship check on behalf of the Streetsboro Police Association (SPA) to a graduating senior from Streetsboro High School as part of their scholarship awards ceremony. SPD INVESTIGATING THEFT - NEED HELP TO IDENTIFY SUSPECT
The Streetsboro Police Department is investigating the theft of bulk gold and silver from a local business. The suspect arrived as passenger in a blue or black vehicle, unknown make or model. Suspect is described as a heavyset black male, approximately 23-24yoa, 6’0”, 250lbs, 3 or 4 gold upper front teeth, and a scar on his cheek underneath his left eye. Please contact Det. On January 6, 2011, the Streetsboro Police Department received a Rapid ID Fingerprint Device from the Ohio Attorney General's Office. These devices were made available to Ohio law enforcement agencies through a grant program coordinated by that office. This device will aid police personnel in the field in making positive identifications of unknown individuals and accessing criminal databases.
