EMPLOYMENT WITH THE CITY OF STREETSBORO POLICE DEPARTMENT

 

Police Officer

The Streetsboro Civil Service Commission anticipates administering a civil service examination to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer in May-June 2008.  The established eligibility list will be good for a minimum of one (1) year.   Please check back to this site and to local newspapers for further updates regarding testing information.

Police/Fire Dispatcher

The City of Streetsboro is not testing for the position of Police/Fire Dispatcher at this time.   The elibigility list from the most recent civil service examination will be in place until April 17, 2009.

The Police Department currently employs seven (7) full-time Police/Fire Dispatchers.  Applicants passing the Dispatcher civil service examination will be ranked on an eligibility list by the Streetsboro Civil Service Commission.   Candidates must be computer literate.     

 

Application Requirements

The City of Streetsboro is an equal opportunity employer.  Applicants for the position of Police Officer with the Streetsboro Police Department must meet the following minimum requirements: 

 

1.  United States Citizen

2.  21 years old at time of examination.

3.  For Officer candidates - Must have completed Ohio Basic Police Schooling, OR, must be enrolled in a Police Academy. A  

     copy of your certificate must be provided with your application.

4.  For continued employment, the applicant must reside within a 15 mile radius of the intersection of State   

     Route 14 and State Route 43 (Officer and Dispatcher).  Grace period applies.

5.  Applicants must possess good moral character, and sound mental and physical health.  Vision 20/20 corrected.

    There is a color identification requirement.  Good hearing is required along with no limiting disabilities.

6. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.  An applicant may be rejected for 6 active

    points on his or her drivers license and pending review, for other serious driving problems.

7.  Past criminal offenses may be grounds for not hiring.

8.  Extra points are awarded on the civil service examination for veterans & college graduates.  A copy of your DD-214 and/or

     college diploma must be provided with your application.

9.  An employment agreement or contract may be required.

10. There is a no tobacco requirement (Officer and Dispatcher)

 

Police Officer candidates passing the written civil service examination must complete and pass a physical agility test administered through Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), or have passed the Tri-C physical agility test within the preceding twelve (12) month period.   Click here to link to Forms Gallery, where you can access the Tri-C Police Officer agility test information.

 

All candidates considered for employment will undergo a thorough review of their background, including, but not limited to:  A complete background investigation , fingerprints and photographs, a criminal history check,  a polygraph examination, a psychological examination, a medical examination, as well as a personal interview with command staff.  Successful candidates will be given a provisional offer of employment and participate in a twelve (12) month probationary period.

 

Streetsboro Police Officers currently participate in varying assignments, including, but not limited to:   DARE, School Resource Officer (SRO), Investigations, Metro SWAT, Portage County Drug Task Force, Firearms Instructor, Taser Instructor, Radar/Laser Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Chemical Repellent/OC Instructor, ADAP Instructor, Field Training Officer (FTO), Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), and Technical Traffic Accident Reconstruction. 

 

Salary & Benefits

2008 Hourly pay range:       OFFICER:  $19.45 to $27.20

                                   DISPATCHER:  $17.33 to $21.40

Paid hourly shift differential for 2nd & 3rd shifts

Added Longevity pay begins after only 36 months service

Paid vacation (3 weeks after 5 years service / 5 weeks after 15 years service)
